Under-9 ‘A’ League

Banbury United Youth 3 Carterton 0

This early kick off saw Banbury United Youth take on Carterton at home in the bright sunshine with the leagues’ two meanest defences on show. The first half had ‘nil-nil’ written all over it and so it proved with only a few corners at each end to show for the whole half.

The second half had United on most of the attack with a pass from Lincoln Alexander setting Callum Reed free to finish in style. United continued to press forward, a Connor Sims shot fell to Ashley Owen to finish for 2-0. A long ball from Shay Kelly to Oliver McBride to Lincoln Alexander made it 3-0 to United, Banbury’s defensive partnership of Shay Kelly and Ashley Owen were outstanding at the back mopping up all comers, this left George Millward in goal with little to do. A good refereeing performance allowed both teams to play football.

2nd Match – Banbury United Youth 2 Carterton 2

The second game was a much closer affair with United making changes all over the pitch. Paul Barnes on the right wing, Shay Kelly on the left wing, Taylor Jenkins forward and Oliver McBride in defence. United started brightly with a Shay Kelly run and shot/cross had Taylor Jenkins leaping through the air to volley home. An unfortunate trip in the box resulted in a penalty which Carterton converted to equalise. A five pass move involving Ashley Owen, Paul Barnes, Taylor Jenkins, Callum Reed to Shay Kelly resulted in a fine goal and the half finished 2-1.

The second half saw the introduction of Lincoln Alexander, Connor Sims, Paul Barnes in goal and George Millward in midfield. A string of chances were missed which put Carterton back on the attack and a second goal made the final score 2-2 for a well-deserved draw.
