Banbury United Youth 2 - Charlbury Town Youth 3
On this bitterly cold Saturday morning, Banbury United Youth took on Charlbury Town Youth at home. Right from the kick-off, United went on the attack and in what seemed an endless supply of shots from Oliver McBride, Callum Reed and Lincoln Alexander ending in goal keeper saves and goal line clearances.
United continued to huff and puff without producing an end product. United then had a warning sign from Charlbury in what seemed a certain goal, Shay Kelly kicked the ball away. The half ended 0-0.
In the second half, straight from the kick-off Charlbury went on the attack and with the United team all looking on Robert Vincent for Chalbury scored. Charlbury in a four-minute spell gave United a footballing lesson. Slick one-touch football produced another goal from Robert Vincent and a long-range effort from Connor Allsop saw United 3-0 down. United were shell shocked at this point but an injury changed things for United and they dug deep to produce a spirited fight back.
A pass from Ashley Owen to Lincoln Alexander produced United’s first goal, a looped cross which fell to Shay Kelly who side foot volleyed into an empty net. With fresh impetus United again went on the attack, with Lincoln Alexander beating five Charlbury players and the goalkeeper for United’s second goal and one which would have been worthy of Match of the Day. With the score now 3-2 to Charlbury, United continue the pressure with shots from Connor Sims and Taylor Jenkins. Paul Barnes made a further three fine saves to keep United in the game. Final score 2-3 to Charlbury. An exciting game, which despite being a home defeat was a joy to watch.
2nd Match – Banbury United Youth 2 - Charlbury Town Youth 1
The second game an eight-a-side affair saw Charlbury take the lead, with United’s Calan Cheyne scoring to equalise. Two well-matched teams played out a tough first half. The second half was much the same, seemingly destined for a draw but Connor Sims popped up to make it a 2-1 win to United.
